Color challenge----blue

I love these girls. they are sitting on the shelf in my downstairs bathroom. I bought them off Ebay and they were originally a set of three. I love how the sun cuts through the glass and the blue just fills the room.

Wow what a week

This week has been a
roller coaster ride. It started with the passing of my grandmother last Thursday. After many years of battling Alzheimers as well as pneumonia and assorted illnesses and injuries that came up she finally was able to rest. Her funeral was Tuesday.

Thursday night we found out Reuben got THE job he's been working towards for the last 10 years. He's very excited as am I. It's essentially the same job working for a little bit smaller company but as the team leader instead of a team mate. It's a great step for him. And all before he turned 40. I know that was a major benchmark for him and he did it. I am so proud of him!

Yesterday we went to a friend of my mother's Vet clinic where we met this little guy. He's about 19 months old...a Manchester Terrier. He definitely has the Terrier spirit and loves to jump tall couches in a single bound! We think he might also be mixed with chihuahua because his face screams chihuahua. He doesn't have the long snout that's typical of the MT. He's about 10 pounds though he's very long. He's the sweetest thing though the kids get a little nervous when he jumps on them. We need to file his nails!

You can get an idea of his size here. I think he might possibly be the toy version as he's 19 months and only 10 pounds. I am going to have to do some research on that! I think Reuben is the most excited of all! He held him on his lap the whole way home.

Looking out my kitchen window

An odd picture, I am sure, to see! I love my little kitchen window for two reasons. One, the glass miniatures that sit in the window, and two, the roses that are starting to bloom right outside my window!

So this weekend I discovered Prison Break. and can I say wow!!! Ithink it's a fascinating concept that the little brother, in trying to rescue the older brother, tatoos the prison's blueprints onto his body. it's an amazing piece of art and an intricacy of unreal proportions. I read that the tat isn't real and takes four hours to put on the actor's body. yikes!

roses are blooming

As we rolled down the driveway I noticed the roses were blooming! love the variegated types!

an unusual breakfast

So this morning the kids wanted Ramen for breakfast. Reuben thinks that's odd. I just said okay and made it. Hey, they are eating right? feed 'em and shoo them out the door! I mean they had two sliced eggs with it and a cup of Kool aid. Can't get more American than that!

another altoid tin!

I made an altoid tin last night for my co-teacher to give to her fiancee!

Conversations with a three year old

Giuliana: Are kids strange on a bus?
Me: Um do you mean are kids on a bus strangers?
Giuliana: Yes. Are kids on a bus strangers?
Me: Do you know their names?
Giuliana: Yes, Kids.
Me: ummm no, that's not their names. If you don't know their names they are strangers to you. If Mama and Fafa don't know them then they are strangers. Do we talk to strangers?
Nicolas and Giuliana in chorus: No!
Me: And why don't we talk to stranger?
Giuliana: Because they can take us and kill us!
Me: quiet.
Where the heck did she get that? Yikes!

the color red

So I had to find something that had the color red and of course this came right into my line of site. Laundry is the bane of my existence. As you can tell by the two loads crying to be put away. yet I continue to ignore it.I'll wait until the clothes in the washer are dry!

well hello....

I see you Kenneth! go work on your writing piece!

Easter eggs

Oh I love malt eggs...love them love them love them. I could easily eat an entire bag. Oh wait- I almost have! It's been a great substitute since I gave up chocolate for Lent!
Don't they look so pretty! And they taste so good! Giuliana keeps begging for some. She'll even eat the "ugly colors". She's so generous like that!

morning....

It's Tuesday morning. I am sitting here sipping on my Italian roast Starbucks coffee. I have probably made fifteen errors in just typing that first sentence so maybe I need to wait until tonight to post! ha ha

I started reading this book today for our book group. I don't know why I put it off. Yeah, I do. Because I knew it was going to be a sad book. I am almost done with The Tenth Circle, another sad book. But it's been an amazing story all along. I already have her next book downloaded to my iPod!

On a side note with absolutely nothing to do with this book it's march...and you know what that means right?

Yes!!! Lemon Ice Box Pie!! Love this stuff! yum

My corner

So we are starting a weekly challenge/inspiration on Scrapdawgs and this week's inspiration is a corner. Odd you say? well yes. But from the oddest of topics comes greatness right? I keep telling myself that over and over.
This is a corner that I love in my house. Okay, well it's actually outside my house and yes, it's a corner! notice the two fences coming together at the pole! When spring gets in full bloom you will see the purple flowers on the bush on the left. The moon blossoms behind will begin to bud and the white gardenias fill the air. I have two pink crepe myrtles planted that will start blooming this year. The seat overlooks the entire back yard.

Girl with a Pearl Earring

I just finished watching this movie. Wow.The movie itself was like a painting.

We went to Fogo de Chau for dinner tonight...and wow. Reuben and I both decided we don't eat meat enough to eat the cost of the dinner! yikes it was expensive. IT felt very decadent. The meats came at us fast as soon as we turned over the little coasters. sirloins, filets, chicken breasts wrapped in bacon, sausages....it was abundant. I was dizzy just watching the waiters running around the place. No,seriously I was dizzy! they were moving so quickly we were watching for tray wrecks! we almost saw a couple. The salad bar was really an antipasto bar....the best fresh mozzarella and dried tomatoes. yum! The dessert though quite tasty was not as fresh as we'd hoped. We ordered Creme Brule. It was obviously preprepared but that didn't stop us from eating it all! at 7.50 a pop we weren't leaving any behind! It was a great evening though...

What a sad day. We lost our dog today. Polo ran after the mailman but instead of chasing this time got in front of the truck. Luckily, if that can be said, he passed instantly. I feel so badly for Reuben, as I know he loved that dog so much. It's not going to be the same around the house. The kids haven't quite clicked. Or maybe they have and they are just expressing in their own way. Nicolas wants another dog. I told him give us a little time. Giuliana wants to call the police. (You can tell she listens at school!) I feel something awful for the mailman. He was very upset. First thing I did was tell him over and over that it wasn't his fault. He knows how Polo loved to chase him. That was Polo's nature. He was stubborn and would run after anything and everything.

He was a good dog...and he'll very much be missed. We buried him in the backyard next on the fence line next to Solomon, his buddy, our cat. Now he's back with his friend.

9 years today! wow....it's flown by!

I bought this yesterday at Kroger and wow! If you like pink grapefruit you will love this! I wonder if I can lose weight using it! The whole bathroom smelled just like pink grapefruit. Yum!

Family TIes

My husband is a sitcom junkie. And not any sitcoms---specifically sitcoms that aired in the 70's to early 80's. Our latest addition to the collection, Family Ties. This joins The Jeffersons, The Munsters, Sanford and Sons, Leave it to Beaver, The Cosby Show, A Different World, What's Happening, Alf and others!

We had lunch today at Grotto. Wow what a restaurant!
When we initially sat down they brought us this huge bowl full of bread and dipping oils. I could have easily made my meal there! At least five different breads filled the bowl.
Reuben ordered calamari for an appetizer. It was so good....After we had pizzas. Mine was goat cheese, chicken, fresh herbs and tomatoes. Reuben ordered a margherita pizza with Italian sausage You can't really tell from the size of this photo but the plate was a good 18 inches wide! I ended up taking more than half of the pizza home! The crust was awesome...it was paper thin.

The dessert cart came around and Nicolas' face just glowed when he saw the chocolate cake. It was a good 8 inches tall. Sorry the pic is blurry but you get the idea! A solid thick chocolate shell, 4 layers, and filled with dark chocolate and an almond paste... it was heavenly! I ate the bottom shell part and he finished off the rest!
